This past Monday, NIPSCO kicked a new mentoring progrnewam called IN-POWER. Through the program 10-15 freshmen from Lew Wallace STEM Academy and Merrillville High School will be selected to shadow NIPSCO employees one day a week for 10 weeks. They will able to observe engineering, communications and operations in action. Those students will continue to participate in the program throughout their high school enrollment and have the opportunity to take college courses at Calumet College during the summer to help meet high school graduation requirements while earning college credits, even being eligible for internships at NIPSCO after the enroll in college.

V as in Victor was tasked with creating a new logo for IN-POWER as well as the supporting materials. While discussing the logo, Eddie Melton, NIPSCO’s communications specialist and program creator, wanted a look that didn’t stray too far from the existing NIPSCO brand. IN-POWER is a pilot program and therefore keepign with the recognition of the NISPCO brand was at the forefront of the design process.  The poster for the kickoff event was also designed to fit within the brand guidelines put forth by the client. We are very proud to be a part of the new program and the mentoring efforts.

Back in January, we were approached by COFFY, Community Organizations for Family and Youth, a about helping them promote their upcoming Youth Violence Conference on May 7th and 8th. The result launched last week with our “It’s Time To Talk About It” campaign.

COFFY, established in 2005, is comprised of over 20 community service organizations whose mission is “to build an active network that strengthens community organizations which provide opportunities for the healthy development of families and youth in the City of Gary.” While the topic of youth violence in these areas is not a new one, the way that COFFY is hoping to approach things is. Instead of believing the problem will rectify itself, the Youth Violence Conference brings the problems to the people. The conference covers 2 days, one aimed at professionals in the field in a position to directly influence the opinions of youth and the second day aimed at speaking directly to the youth in the communities. In early January we posted a blog that we were celebrating the new year with pierogies. Well, on Good Friday, we launched the first portion of the site to rave reviews and almost 1,800 visitors in the last 2 weeks. We’re very proud of the site (please check it out for yourself at pierogifest.net).

A friend of mine, Sarah Ward, owns a custom card and invitation shop called Say It Sassy. Her invitations have a contemporary and unique feel and don’t fall into the standard category of flowers or frills. She wanted a logo and business card design that captured her style, self-described as “modern and simple”, something that would appeal to a new bride or mother. With some projects, inspiration is present from the beginning, and with a name like “Say It Sassy”, we had a great place to start.  “Sassy” by definition is bold and brazen, mouthy and a little smart-alecky, so we played of a unique script for the logo and had some fun with the language for the business cards and ads.
